AAA AUTO reports most successful year to date – more than 111,000 cars sold

Prague, January 7, 2026 – Last year, 111,419 cars left the international network of AAA AUTO and Mototechna car centres with new owners behind the wheel, the highest number in the 34-year history of the network’s operator, AURES Holdings. As a result, the group has now bought and sold a total of 3.5 million cars. Records were broken in Czechia, Slovakia, and Poland. For the first time in its history, SUVs took the top spot in Czechia and Poland, overtaking hatchbacks, which dominated the market just a year earlier. Electric cars are also experiencing a boom, with sales more than doubling year-on-year.

In 2025, a total of 61,272 cars were sold at AAA AUTO and Mototechna car centres in Czechia, with SUVs enjoying the largest share (28 percent) for the first time. Just two years ago, SUVs were in third place sales behind hatchbacks, the share of which fell to 24 percent last year, and estate cars (26 percent). With a 32 percent share, SUVs also became the most popular category in Poland, where AAA AUTO car centres sold 28,749 vehicles last year. In Slovakia, the group sold a total of 21,398 cars. SUVs are still one percent behind estate cars there, but they are expected to move to the top this year as well.

"Last year saw records broken in ten months out of twelve, i.e. the whole year except October and November. Compared to previous years, December was also unusually strong, with sales of almost 7,000 cars, thanks to a combination of the warm weather, the extension of the Black Friday discount campaign, and the expansion of our branch network into smaller towns. We did best in July, with the highest car sales for a single month in the entire 34-year history of AAA AUTO, at almost 10,500," explains Karolína Topolová, CEO and Chair of the Board of Directors of AURES Holdings, operator of the AAA AUTO and Mototechna international car centre network. "Last year was unique for the used car market, and not just in terms of our record sales. Customers' purchasing habits also changed significantly. Traditionally, the strongest sales seasons, spring and fall, began and peaked a month earlier than in previous years. Preferences in car types and engines are also changing," adds Co-CEO Petr Vaněček.

Boom in all-electric cars

The biggest "improvers" are electric cars, sales of which have more than doubled within the group, albeit from a relatively modest 900 to around 2,000 vehicles. The Czechs take most of the credit for this, as electric cars account for 2.5 percent of sales on the domestic market here, compared to 1.1 percent in Slovakia and 0.6 percent in Poland. Our northern neighbours also stand out in terms of the share taken by petrol engines (56 percent) compared to diesel engines, which accounted for just 28 percent of sales in Poland last year. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, around 45 percent of cars sold were diesel-engined, while the share of petrol-engined cars was almost a fifth lower than in Poland. LPG cars also have a significant share in Poland, at 7 percent, almost five times higher than in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Czechs and Slovaks prefer Škoda, Poles prefer Opel

Poles also differ in their brand preferences. Unlike Czechs and Slovaks, they are not such big fans of Škoda and prefer Opel. In terms of models, Škoda unsurprisingly leads the sales rankings in the Czech Republic – one in ten Czechs bought an Octavia last year. However, the Octavia, Fabia, and Superb also sell well in Poland. In Poland, the Octavia ranks third with a 2% share, ahead of the Opel Astra compact and the Kia Sportage SUV. Together with the Czechs, Poles are increasingly opting for automatic transmission (37%), with Slovaks close behind at 33%. One in five cars sold in the Czech Republic had four-wheel drive.
