Professional used car retailers are offering newer cars on average
Prague 17 July 2018 – The nearly new used car market in countries where the relaunched Mototechna brand operates saw almost twenty-six thousand more cars offered during the first half of the year in an international comparison. The most common average mileage was 15 785 km; vehicle age increased by a few months. This was the conclusion drawn from the continuous market monitoring conducted by Mototechna, part of the AURES Holdings group.
In the first half of 2017, a total of 156 557 nearly new cars were offered for sale in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary, while the figure for the first half of this year stood at 182 507. Of these, 55 875 cars were advertised in the Czech Republic, which is 8 109 more than last year. As usual, the largest offer was in Prague (21 151 cars), and the smallest was in the Karlovy Vary region (870). Imports accounted for 6.6 % of cars. In the Czech Republic, the most common asking price was 435 000 crowns, which is 10 thousand crowns more than in the first half of last year. The most common average age of the vehicles advertised was 1.1 years, which is just one tenth up on last year for vehicles offered by professional sellers. Private sellers advertise older vehicles. “The reason for this marked difference is the fact that professional retailers often have access to brand new vehicles. After serving in company fleets or marketing events these are then offered as nearly new cars,” said Karolína Topolová, Director General of AURES Holdings, operator of the international network of AAA AUTO and Mototechna car dealerships.
The ranking for the most popular cars in the Czech Republic is clearly dominated by Škoda, with the Octavia, Fabia, Rapid and Superb. The Citigo has droped from fifth to seventh place this year, while the Hyundai i30 now stands fifth. Volkswagen secured the sixth and seventh places with the Golf and the Passat. The Škoda Yeti ranked ninth, while the top 10 was rounded of by the Kia Ceed. In Slovakia, the Škoda Octavia tops the nearly new car market; in Poland and Hungary it is the Opel Astra.
The relaunched Mototechna brand, which specialises in selling nearly new cars and forms part of the AAA AUTO group, saw a 9.7 percent increase in demand last year in this segment of the Czech market. A total of almost 7 500 nearly new cars were sold under the Mototechna brand in 2017 and over 50 thousand cars have been sold since 2012.
